Hotel Headquarters:  Hotel Headquarters will be the Ramada Plaza at 120^th Ave. and Interstate 25.  This is the same hotel that was used as Headquarters for the 2004 Fall Classic Nationals (it was the Holiday Inn then) and the 2005 Northglenn Championship.  Rates are $79.00 + tax, 1-4 persons per room.  For reservations call (303) 452-4100 and be sure to ask for the “Judo rate.”

Competition Sites:  Kata Competition at Northglenn Recreation Center (next to Hotel); Shiai Competition (Individual Age/Weight, Open, and Team) at Northglenn High School 3 miles away from Hotel (transportation will be provided between the hotel and the tournament site.)

TOURNAMENT FEATURES

Ø      Two contest areas.  Two (2) full-size tatami areas.  Depending on early registrations, a third contest area may be added.

Ø      Registration/Check-in and Weigh-in on Friday ONLY at the Tournament Headquarters (Ramada Plaza) – Refer to schedule on the following page.

Ø      Registration, Check-in, and Weigh-in will be at the RAMADA Plaza, Friday, November 18^th.  All athletes must appear in-person to verify participation.  Refer to the schedule for times.

Ø      Draw: The draw will be conducted on Friday evening and we will use the Texas Match Scheduling System.  Each division will be assigned to a mat and all matches on that mat will be consecutively numbered so that players will know their first, and subsequent, match numbers.

Ø      Kata Competition will be on Friday, November 18th; Age/Weight Shiai competition will be on Saturday, November 19th (5-year age groups starting at 30-34 years; Olympic weight categories); "Open" Shiai category for each age group (no weight limits) and Team Shiai competition will be held on Sunday, November 20th.

Ø      Eligibility: The event is open to any athlete who is a member in good standing of any National Judo Organization affiliated with the Pan American Judo Union (USA Judo, Judo Canada, Judo Brazil, etc.), is a permanent resident of North, Central or South America, and is 30 years of age or older on November 18, 2005 for Kata, and November 19, 2005 for Shiai and Open.

Ø      Referee Clinic Friday evening.  It is possible that a member of the Pan American Judo Union will conduct this clinic.  For details, contact Jentry Kendall (jkjudo@aol.com)

Ø      Judogi and belt Colors: Competitors MUST have a white Judogi. Blue Judogi’s are optional and may only be worn by the competitor who is called first in a pair of contestants (the “blue” side).  In all matches where the both competitors are wearing white gi’s, both competitors will remove their grade belts and wear a blue or white belt to identify the contestant’s designated color for the match.  Contestants are requested to bring their own blue and white belts for use on the “blue” or “white” side.  This will insure that your belt will fit properly.  Mark your belt with your name or your club’s name.

TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION/CHECK-IN, AND WEIGH-IN

KATA: Friday, November 18, 2005 9 AM – 11 AM at the RAMADA Plaza. All Kata athletes must appear in-person to verify participation during this time period.

AGE/WEIGHT SHIAI, OPEN, and TEAM: Friday, November 18, 2005 4 PM - 8 PM at the RAMADA Plaza.  All athletes must appear in-person to verify participation and weigh-in during this time period.  Coaches must appear at this time to register and receive their floor pass credential.

LATE OPEN: During the Age/Weight Shiai competition on Saturday, November 19, at the Tournament Site.  Time and location will be announced during the tournament.  Individuals may enter into, or withdraw from, the Open Categories at this time.

LATE TEAM: During the Age/Weight Shiai competition on Saturday, November 19 at the Tournament Site.  Time and location will be announced during the tournament.  Teams may enter into, or withdraw from, the Team Competition at this time.

COACHES:  Friday, November 18, 2005 4 PM - 8 PM at the RAMADA Plaza.  ALL COACHES must check-in with tournament officials on Friday, November 18, 2005 between the 4 PM and 8 PM to receive credentials and floor passes.  International Coaches and USA nationally certified coaches ONLY will be provided credentials.  Only coaches with such credentials will be allowed to coach matside (one coach per athlete in the appropriate coaches chair.)  Coaches should submit the Coach Credentials/Floor Pass Application Form located in the entry packet.

ENTRY FEES, AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

EARLY REGISTRATION: $75.00 postmarked by Friday, October 21, 2005.

LATE REGISTRATION: $90.00 postmarked between Saturday, October 22, 2005 and Wednesday, November 9, 2005, inclusively.

WALK-UP REGISTRATION: $110.00 $90.00 (reduced on November 14th)

For Shiai, one entry fee authorizes an athlete to compete in one Age/Weight division, the Open division for his/her age group, and one team.

For Kata, one entry fee authorizes an athlete to compete in a maximum of three (3) katas (combination of single and/or mixed gender).  Both Tori and Uke must pay separate registration fees.

Incomplete entry forms or forms without entry fees enclosed will be considered late entries and those contestants will be expected to pay the $100.00 walk-up entry fee.

Regardless of when an athlete registers (Early, Late, or Walk-up), all athletes must still check-in with tournament officials to verify participation during the times listed above.

AWARDS

One (1) Gold, one (1) Silver, and two (2) Bronze medals will be awarded in each division.
Exceptions:  In Kata and Round Robin divisions, only one (1) bronze medal will be awarded.

Both Kata competitors in a pair will receive medals.  All team members, including the alternate, will receive medals.

AGE/WEIGHT CATEGORIES OF COMPETITION:

Separate categories of competition will be conducted as follows:
1) both partners Female, 2) both partners Male, 3) mixed partners (one male, one female)
An athlete may compete in a maximum of three (3) different Katas.

KATA DISCIPLINES:

Shiai Rules:

General: The Masters Championships will be conducted in accordance with the Contest Rules, Organization Code and Sporting Code of the International Judo Federation with the following modifications.

Match Lengths:  Under 60 years old: 3 minutes for men and women; 60 years old or older:  2 1/2  minutes for men and women.

1. Remain uncontested.
2. Move down in age group, same weight until competition is found, OR
3. If an uncontested competitor must move down more than one age group in order to find competition, he or she may choose to move up in weight within their proper age group.

1. Five (5) or less: Round robin (every competitor in the division fights every other competitor).
2. Six (6) or above: Modified double elimination. 1st and 2nd will be pure knockout (single elimination). All others will compete in a "loser's" pool until there are two left.  Both will receive 3rd place.

Team Rules (Clarifications June 21, 2005 in bold-underlined):

1. A team shall consist of 5 male, or 3 female players plus one (1) alternate.  All players shall have the same country of citizenship with the exception that one (1) player may be a “guest” from a different country, if desired.
2. a.  Male teams shall have a minimum total age of 200 years, i.e. average age of 40 years, including if and when the alternate is used.
   b.  Female teams shall have no total age restriction.
3. The alternate may be used at any time, for any reason (injury, tactical, etc.), but if used, the player who is replaced may not return to competition.  After the alternate is utilized, if any team member cannot continue, the team will play “short handed” in that position.
4. Teams will compete in order of lightest to heaviest.  If an alternate is utilized, s/he shall be positioned according to his/her actual weight.
5. All matches, regardless of the age of the players, shall be three (3) minutes in duration with no “golden score”.  A draw (hikiwake) will be awarded if there is no score at the end of 3 minutes.
6. The winner will be determined by: a) the team which has the most wins; b) if number of wins are equal, then the winner will be the team with the most points according to: ippon = 10, Waza-ari = 7, Yuko = 5, Koka = 3, two Waza-ari’s = 10; c) if points are tied, a pair of contestants will be selected by random draw and will replay their match – if score is tied at the end of 3 minutes, the referees will immediately use flags (best of three decision) to determine the winner in this one match only.
